Nurse-led, with a doctor alongside

What the pathway involves.

For people exploring an alternative approach to their treatment, or wanting a considered review of the care they already have.

  1. A first appointment with one of our registered nurses, with a doctor alongside. Your concerns, your current care and your medicines, reviewed together.
  2. A straight answer. If this pathway isn’t right for you, we’ll tell you.
  3. Follow-ups as your plan needs them, with nurse check-ins between visits.
  4. One shared Sohma record. With your consent, we request your records from your GP.

Two pathways

Which pathway is for me?

Sohma has two ways in. Both start with one appointment, in person or by telehealth.

You’re here Alternative Medicine Pathway For people exploring an alternative approach to their treatment, or wanting a considered review of the care they already have. Starts with a first appointment, 35 min, $179
The other pathway Functional & Integrative Medicine For persistent symptoms, or several concerns that overlap, when you want the whole picture looked at together. Starts with an initial consultation, 60 min, $379

Still not sure? A free call with one of our nurses helps you choose.

The field

What is alternative medicine?

Alternative medicine is the wide field of traditional and complementary approaches that sit beside conventional medicine. Some of it is well supported and some isn’t, and natural doesn’t automatically mean safe.

At Sohma it’s clinically governed. Your care starts with one of our registered nurses, with a doctor alongside, and the care you already have stays in view.

It isn’t a rejection of your GP. It’s a wider conversation about your options, with the evidence and the risks on the table, and a plan you understand.

Good to know

How fees work

Medicare
Rebates may apply. Reception can confirm your expected rebate and out-of-pocket cost before you book, by phone or in person. Cameron’s consultations don’t attract a Medicare rebate.
In person or telehealth
The same fee either way. Medicare rebates are generally better for face-to-face visits, and telehealth rebates usually need one face-to-face visit with us in the past 12 months.
Tests and medicines
Anything beyond the appointment, like tests, medicines or other services, is discussed and priced separately, before it’s ordered.
What a consultation covers
A consultation doesn’t guarantee a particular treatment, or that we can take over your care from another provider.

Before you book

Questions people ask first

Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly, in person or by telehealth.
Will I get a particular treatment?
Not necessarily. A consultation doesn’t guarantee a particular treatment. What it does give you is a careful review and a straight answer about the next step.
Is alternative medicine safe?
Some of it is well supported and some isn’t, and natural doesn’t automatically mean safe. That’s why your current medicines are reviewed before anything is suggested.
Can supplements or herbal preparations interact with my prescriptions?
They can. That’s why everything you take is reviewed together at your first appointment, before anything new is suggested.
What happens after the first appointment?
We agree the next step with you at the end of it. If you continue, that’s with follow-up appointments, and nurse check-ins between them at no charge.
I’m already with another alternative medicine provider. Where do I start?
With a Switch to Sohma appointment (30 minutes, $129): an independent review of your current treatment and records.
